SANDESTIN – It was really just a matter of time for Will Muschamp. He was the defensive coordinator and heir-apparent to the head coaching throne at Texas behind Mack Brown, but jumped when Florida gave him the opportunity to return to the SEC as a first-time head coach.
Muschamp’s SEC roots run deep.
He has spent 12 years in the league, including four as a player at Georgia and eight coaching at Auburn as a graduate assistant first in ’95 and returning as defensive coordinator in ’06. But before that he was hired as a linebackers coach by Nick Saban at LSU in 2000, and by 2001 Saban gave him the defensive coordinator job.
